This is no way meant to spark whining or complaining. Rather to see what US Park Rangers have heard or know about different things. These are things I have heard (over the last 10 years) were changing or coming forth but that is all I have heard

1. IMARS???
2. RM 9 update?
3. No Net Loss???
4. change of the LE Uniform
5. redesign of the LE vehicle
6. change in LE authority...broaden beyond park lands...like other Federal agencies

Best and Worst field training parks

I think it could spark some good conversation on the current state of the field training program as well.

Ways to appeal an Annual Leave denial?

So I recently had a weekend of Annual Leave denied and I was wondering what is the proper course of action to appeal the decision. My issue is that our S.O.P. states that a certain number of Rangers need to be on duty for minimum staffing levels and with me on leave, we would still have that number of rangers on duty. So i'm not seeing a justifiable reason to deny my leave. Any help is greatly appreciated. Scott

Vehicles

So for those of us out there that work the road and drive a sedan, whats the better vehicle a crown vic or charger? I understand that the charger is a little smaller and if you want trunk space you gotta get ride of the spare tire. RM 9 says that LE vehicles must be full size and have a V8, however GSA has the charger listed as midsize. Under GSA pricing the charger is cheaper and gets better MPG. Does anybody drive a charger out there in the NPS? Any info would be great.

Obviously citations are not working.....people aren't paying, there is no criminal record and no warrants being issued. People have nothing to fear except a Ranger catching them. Maybe we need to start arresting them.....I am sure this won't happen.

For those of you who don't know, Classic Lifeguard is a small aeromedical company out of Page, Arizona that services among other places Glen Canyon, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Canyonlands, Zion, and several parks in and around the Navajo reservation. Many rangers including myself have developed personal relationships with the pilots and crew over the years. I can't tell you how many times Classic has swooped in and pulled a patient of mine out of the gnarliest canyon or beach, day, night,...

Va. State FOP Conference
